University of Maastricht: New Bachelors study of European Public Health
Next academic year, Universiteit Maastricht will start a Bachelors study of European public health. The education ministry gave the go-ahead this week.
International health issues, such as bird flu or food safety, have shown that good co-operation between countries is very important. European public health will deal with such subjects.
The programme trains students to be policymakers in health care, with knowledge of international regulations. Students may register for this study, which is in English, if they have obtained the relevant secondary-school qualifications.
First-year students are expected to come from across Europe. "We are recruiting a great deal in Germany and Belgium, but I have also had requests for information from Estonia and even from Pakistan," says Danielle Vogt, spokesperson for the programme.
The lecturers are also from all corners. "In addition, we will also be working with guest lecturers," says Vogt. "These could be Euro-MPs, but also alumni from this university who are working in the field concerned."
