Holland is 4th richest EU nation
If the average EU national had EUR 100 to spend, the average Belgian national would have EUR 118 at their disposal, statistics bureau Eurotsat.
Eurostat said in terms of disposable wealth, Belgians were ranked 6th, newspaper 'Het Laatste Nieuws' reported.
However, that figure hides regional differences. The provinces of Wallonian Brabant and Flemish Brabant and every other Flemish province are above the EU average.
The remaining Wallonian provinces languish below the EU average.
Eurostat ranks EU member states according to purchasing power per resident, a relative measuring stick for disposable wealth.
