Dutch police use YouTube to combat crime

The Central Holland regional police force has opened its own channel on YouTube. Called Gesnapt! (Caught in the Act!), it shows film clips recorded on closed circuit cameras of criminals committing crimes.

It is hoped that this will increase the chance of arresting burglars and people who have committed assaults. Central Holland is not the first Dutch police force to use the internet to combat crime, but it is the first to use of YouTube in this way.

Han University: Master of International Business

If you can’t get enough of HAN University of Applied Sciences / Arnhem Business School, even after 4 years of study, there is a way to continue enjoying your time as a student here: a Master programme.

When Monika graduated with a degree in International Business and Management Studies (IBMS), she decided to stay in Arnhem to complete the Master of International Business (MIB). She is now about halfway through the programme and is extremely busy, but not just with studying.

Chief of 2 companies

Monika runs 2 companies in Slovakia that she set up herself. The first is a temp agency that provides jobs in the Netherlands to Slovakian people. She started the second one just 2 months ago. “It’s really stressful,” she admits, “but I like being busy.” Given the fact that Monika is already running 2 companies, did she really need a Master degree? “For me it had more to do with personal reasons. It only takes about 18 months to complete, and I thought if I have the opportunity to do this, then why not take it?”

Studying and learning by doing

Monika likes the combination of studying and learning by doing. At work she makes use of the things she learns at school. She likes the fact that the Master programme deepens her knowledge. “You learn to discuss problems and find solutions. I’m part of a small group that works together very intensively.” This group even has its own ‘office’ at school, where Monika gets an enthusiastic welcome when she walks in. “I became really good friends with the other Master students.”

Master of International Business

The MIB is offered as a full-time or part-time postgraduate programme, and a new part-time financial programme has just been established. A MIB-FIN graduate has the ability to manage financial risks, integrate academic and practical concepts, and transfer these skills effectively to the workplace. The MIB-FIN enables the graduate to develop a helicopter view of a business, based on the integration and application of theoretical (financial) concepts.
