RSM Erasmus Unviversity has won this year’s Best Marketing Practise Award from the London-based Association of MBAs. The award-winning essay submission, entitled “Behind Every Good Woman is a Great MBA”, was written in response to one of the potential categories of this year’s competition, “Implementing an International MBA Recruitment Campaign”.

The yearly competition is open to all member business schools; previous winners have included London Business School and IMD. RSM Erasmus Unversity’s essay described two cohesive marketing initiatives designed to increase recruitment of women to its prestigious Global Executive MBA – OneMBA programme: The “OneMBA Diary”, written from the point of view of a female participant in the programme, and, in concert with Wall Street Journal Europe, the “Women in Business Scholarship” essay contest, which provided two women with € 24,000 scholarships to enable them to participate in the OneMBA.

“OneMBA Diary”, which appeared over six weeks in the renowned Dutch business magazine Intermediair, highlighted the juggling of roles – mother, wife, friend, colleague, boss and student – women in business face when they choose to achieve an MBA. It was geared towards attracting participants from The Netherlands. This campaign was followed up by the globally-oriented Wall Street Journal Europe “Women in Business” essay scholarship (theme: “Diversity in Leadership”).

The overall success of these campaigns in attracting female applicants (48% in 2004, as opposed to 22% in 2002 and 37% in 2003) resulted in a 15% increase in female participants for the OneMBA class that began in September 2004; women represent approximately 40% of the class. This is the fourth year the Best Marketing Practise Award has been offered by the Association of MBAs.

Judges for the competition were Dr. Rosa Chun, Lecturer in Reputation Management at Manchester Business School; Adrian Day, Director of Brand Consultancy at Uffindell West; and David Rose, a member of the Association of MBAs.
