Nyenrode students spend an average of 57 hours per week studying. This is the result of feedback that the university regularly asks from its students. The fact that almost all students are also members of the local student association and often also spend a great deal of time involved there doesn’t influence the amount of time spent behind the books. Earlier this week, the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science published the Student Monitor, which shows that the average Dutch university student spends 29 hours each week studying.

Professor Dr Jack van der Veen: “At Nyenrode, it is not society that invests in the students’ education, but the students themselves. They come to Nyenrode because they genuinely have the ambition and sense of entrepreneurship to make something of their lives. For this reason, and because of the selection at the gate, we notice that students are more motivated and motivate each other. We do not subscribe to the argument that students are able to spend less time on their studies and have to work more because of lower student grants.

Nyenrode students are prepared to take on the risk of a grant and then fully devote themselves to their studies. They therefore correctly expect an institution such as Nyenrode to offer them an intensive program and an ideal environment to extract everything they can from themselves.” In Nyenrode’s Master of Science in Management program, a two-year study load is combined in a sixteen-month program.

Students are selected at the gate, and the program is given in English. The results at Nyenrode are in line with those of the Roosevelt Academy: they previously indicated that their students also spend an average of 56 hours studying.
