The number of international students who come to study in Holland has been grown by 6,6% in 2012. In the past study year 656,359 students were enrolled and 81,700 of them came from abroad. Currently the amount of foreign students has grown up to 87,100, making up 13% of the student population of 666,859.

### Blend of student population in Holland is changing

As in the previous academic year, students from neighbouring Germany and Belgium occupy respectively the first and the third positions. Chinese students are on the second place.

The amount of students came from European countries is rising. The greatest growth comes from Greece - 40% (1,550 against 1,100 in the last study year), from Bulgaria and UK — 18%, from Spain —14%, from Italy — with 13%. Also more students from new European states started their studies in Holland: Lithuania — 600 (no data from the last year), Latvia (500 versus 300), and Estonia (200 versus 150).

Comparing to the previous academic year, when 11% of research universities students came from abroad, this year's 16% result sets a 5% growth of this performance (40,600 of 423,173 students are international). Statistics of universities of applied sciences shows the same trend with a 3.3% growth (6.5% to 9.8%).

In total 87,100 of students in Holland come from 59 other countries.
