amsterdam university college, study in AUC, study in AmsterdamAUC is a selective liberal arts and sciences Bachelor programme offering interdisciplinary education. Broad-based scientific and social questions are at the heart of the curriculum. Students approach these questions from an interdisciplinary perspective, working in international groups.

Particular attention is paid to the sciences and to the development of academic skills. To apply to AUC please download the Application Guidelines and read carefully, and then follow the link to apply to AUC.

On the rest of this page you can find general information on our admissions procedures and policies.

  • You can apply now for a start in Autumn 2012 (September). Although the regular deadline has passed, we welcome late applications until 1 April 2012. We will process late applications in order of completion/submission, so the sooner you submit your application the better!
  • Students who have started their online application for an Autumn 2012 (September) start date at AUC are warmly welcomed to join the AUC Experience Day on 12 March 2012. They will receive a personal invitation by e-mail through Embark (the online application system). The AUC Experience Day is meant to give prospective students an impression of what it is like to study at AUC. Applicants will be able to attend some classes with AUC students, chat to AUC students and staff outside of class at some specially organised social activities, and visit the student residences.
The AUC Experience Day on 12 March is not meant for applicants who have already received an offer to study at AUC. They will be invited for an AUC Experience Day on 16 April, specially organised for students who have already been offered a place.
  • If you will need a scholarship or other financial help to study at AUC, please follow the link below to our information on financial support.
  • If you are already studying at university and are interested in transferring to AUC, you will need to complete the online application form and admissions procedures just like a new student. If you would like information on transfer of credit, please follow the link below.
  • You may need an entry visa to come and study in the Netherlands. If this is the case (see link below) we strongly recommend that you apply to AUC as early as possible, so that there is plenty of time to sort out visa procedures.

NB: If you want to apply for an exchange or study abroad period at AUC, different procedures apply. Please contact the Study Abroad Office at your institution. Do not use our online application form: that is only for applicants to the full three-year AUC programme. See also link below.

Same procedure for all students

All potential students (Dutch and international) have to complete our application form and go through our admissions process. There are four main steps to the application, admission and enrolment procedure:

  • Send your application: meet the minimum requirements
You must complete our online application form carefully and submit it to AUC, together with all the required documentation. Please read the Application Guidelines carefully before making your application. You will need digital/scanned versions of your documents to upload into the online application form. When you have submitted your application, we will check if you meet the minimum requirements and have sent us all the information we need.
  •  Selected for interview
If your application is complete and meets the minimum requirements, it will be reviewed by AUC. AUC looks for students with the following characteristics:
  • academic excellence: you must demonstrate your ability to meet the academic demands of the AUC programme
  • motivation and ambition to study an intensive and broad programme
  • commitment to contribute to AUC's international student and campus life

A decision will be made on whether or not to invite you for a personal admissions interview. If you are invited for an interview this means that you are being considered for a place at AUC. If you live within an easy day's return travel from Amsterdam (by car/train/bus) you will usually be expected to attend the interview in person. A Skype or telephone interview can be arranged if you are living further away.

Invited to study at AUC

Following the interviews, the AUC Admissions Committee selects the students who appear to be best qualified for participation in the AUC programme and offers them a place at AUC. The offer is usually conditional at this stage, as you may not yet have obtained your secondary school diploma, or not yet completed the test to prove your English skills, etc. You will be asked to confirm your acceptance of our offer. You will then need to meet the conditions of the offer in order to take up your place.

    Enrolment
Once you accept our offer, the procedures are set in motion to welcome you to AUC and complete your enrolment at both the University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam. You will need to submit proof that have met the conditions of the offer (e.g. certified copies of your qualifications), you may need a visa/residence permit to study in the Netherlands, and of course you have to pay the fees and reserve your room in the student residences. We look forward to welcoming you in Amsterdam!
