Maria Gloeckner, a student from Germany, following "International Media and Entertainment Management" programme, tells about study in Holland.

Maria Gloeckner, a student from Germany, studying the educational program "International Media and Entertainment Management" (IMEM), tells about her studies abroad in the Dutch university – NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences.

How did you decide to study in the University of Breda, Holland?

In my school there was an exhibition where they represented several specialties. The former pupils of my school followed them. Since I was thinking of studying in the sphere of management and media, I got into a conversation with one of the students of the NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences from Holland.

He told me about the student life in the Netherlands and about study in Breda. In a week I took a car and went to NHTV University Breda to the open day.

This is where I saw the campus, the multimedia equipment with my own eyes. I also got an idea of the curriculum. After talking with students and teachers I realized that I wanted to study there!

What were your first impressions?

I came to Breda for an open day for prospective students and saw that the town was very beautiful. I knew nothing about it before, and I was impressed seeing that it was a real “Dutch city” like from a children’s tale book! The way to the university lay across channels, parks, and small cozy houses.

The university building is not very big but rather impressive and modern. I especially liked the multimedia; everything is so professional and modern. Everyone in the university is very friendly.

Why did you choose this profession?

Now I cannot remember when I decided studying “something connected with media”. Perhaps, it was in my 9th form. Then I could not imagine that it would become so popular. When I was finishing my school I realized that all media resources in Germany were overloaded while the university standards were not so high.

Thus, I understood that I will not study in Germany. Since I wanted to study in English and tuition fees at  NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences. was not higher than in Germany. As rresult  the "International Media and Entertainment Management" program turned out to be the excellent choice for me.

In Germany, such educational programs can be found in some private universities only – and the study programme costs is not low at all. The great variety of subjects and the perfect proportion of theory and practice convinced me once and for all.

Even if I found an analogue program in Germany, the main thing for me was to study an international program abroad in English – because in this case it will mean that I may work in an international company.

Where did you master the English language?

During my exchange practice I studied English in one of the schools in Ohio.

That is why when I applied to the NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences, I did not need a language certificate. Otherwise I had to take the intensive course of English and then to pass either TOEFL or IELTS examination.
