14 December 2011, 12:37

Christmas and New Year are near at hand and, as always, this year in the very center of Amsterdam — Dam Square — showed up a miracle: a beautiful Christmas tree, which was grown up in the German Ardennes, 22 meters high, it is shining and iridescent from 4 kilometers Christmas garlands.

Christmas and New Year, holland, amsterdam, NetherlandsChristmas and New Year are coming soon. As always, this year in the very center of Amsterdam — Dam Square — showed up a miracle: a beautiful Christmas tree, which was grown up in the German Ardennes, 22 meters high, it is shining and iridescent from 4 kilometers Christmas garlands.

Officially opening day has become the 7th of December, when townsmen and visitors of Holland could see it in its full splendour. Opening ceremony was accompanied by carol-singing by children’s choir of the Amsterdam music school.

Dam Square, which is adorned by the flickering fir tree, neatly framed by street lamps forsooth will become a favorite playground for townspeople and tourists. You could also buy presents to your family and friends, snacks, drink a cup of coffee or mulled wine in shopping center de Bijenkorf located nearby. As well as building of de Bijenkorf itself deserves great attention: it was built at 1870, and nowadays it is considered as national historic landmark.

All holidays in Amsterdam would be heard carillon and musician singing.

In addition, during Christmas holidays the capital of the Netherlands provides to tourists lots of entertainment and pastime:

  • You can do shopping in numerous booths and shopping-centers on business streets, for example Haarlemmerstraat in Jordaan, Spiegelkwartier and Negen Straatjes
  • Order a meal or visit one of more than 1500 restaurants, bars and cafes in Amsterdam.
  • Dance in clubs with world-famous persons, such as Jimmy Woo’s or Escape (and don’t forget to book a table!)

In addition you’ve got a possibility to go skating, visit guest performances of global circuses, cabarets, parks, park amusements.

Welcome! You’ve never before had such a merry celebration!
