Dutch Universities in the QS World University Rankings 2017-2018

The 14th edition of the QS World University Rankings was recently published, revealing top 959 universities in the world. All 13 Dutch research universities were scored among the best 400 institutions, while two of them have also made it into the top 100.

All 13 Dutch research universities were scored among the best 400 institutions, while two of them have also made it into the top 100.

Top universities worldwide

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) topped the overall QS ranking sixth year in a row, followed by Stanford University, Harvard University, California Institute of Technology (Caltech), the University of Cambridge, and the University of Oxford.

Top Dutch universities

Delft University of Technology became the best Dutch university in the QS ranking 2017-2018. The university improved by 8 position since last year and was ranked 54th, overcoming the University of Amsterdam which was topping national chart for the 7 consecutive years. TU Delft was also named the national leader in the Engineering & Technology category (20th place in the world) and the Natural Sciences category (85th place).

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) lost 1 place this year, becoming 58th worldwide and 2nd best nationally. In terms of certain fields of sicences UvA is still topping national chart of Life Sciences and Medicine (35th in the world).

Eindhover University of Technology made an impressive breakthrough this year, climbing up by 17 positions in the overall ranking (104th from 121st) and by 4 positions in the Netherlands (3rd from 7th).

Other Dutch universities in the top 200 were Leiden University and Utrecht University (both 109th place), the University of Groningen (113th), Wageningen University (124th), Erasmus University Rotterdam (147th), the University of Twente (179th), and Maastricht University (200th).
