NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with Dutch research universities, offers English-taught higher education programmes in the fields of Leisure and Tourism. These programmes are taught at an academic level and allow students to obtain an internationally recognized Bachelor or Master of Sciences diploma.
Scientific research is a core part of NHTV’s academic programmes. Students learn to apply a multidisciplinary approach to solving problems faced in a working environment. They also are able to define global trends in their fields of specialisation, making them a valuable team member anywhere they go. As the result of studying at NHTV, students are able to develop strategic thinking and are capable of becoming managers and researchers in many areas related to their degree.
Bachelor’s programmes
For international students who wish to pursue an undergraduate course that is academically oriented, NHTV offers two Bachelor’s programmes. International Leisure Studies and the Bachelor of Sciences Tourism programmes are both taught entirely in English. These programmes have a 3 year duration and provide graduates with a Bachelor of Sciences (BSc) degree which can grant access to a wide variety of Master’s programmes.
International Leisure Studies combines disciplines in the Business Administration field, such as marketing, economics, and organisation, with sociology and psychology. Students taking this course will learn to research and implement new strategies and business models in the leisure industry.
The Bachelor of Sciences Tourism study is a joint course, offered in cooperation with Wageningen University and Research Centre. Its key modules include tourism and its connection to economic development and climatic conditions in target countries. Students spend the last year of this programme at Wageningen University and are then able to choose a minor based on their interests.
The application deadline for both programmes is May 1st.
Master’s programme
As of September 2014 NHTV Breda will start to offer a Master’s in Leisure (MSc) programme in cooperation with Tilburg University. Students taking this course will learn to treat leisure as a resource which can be used for physical and personal development through various creative activities. They will be able to gain extensive knowledge and practical experience from companies in the leisure sector to achieve this goal.
NHTV’s Master’s in Leisure programme will provide many career possibilities to its graduates, including management, policy, research, and education in the leisure sector. The duration of this programme is 12 months.
