Dutch tulipsNuffic, the Dutch organisation dedicated to international cooperation at the higher education level, offers a collection of scholarships called the Orange Tulip Scholarships (OTS). These grants are awarded from various Dutch higher education institutions, multinationals, and government institutes to non-EU/EEA students from certain countries.

Participating countries

The OTS programme is very useful in attracting international students and increasing the visibility of Dutch higher education institutions. It was originally launched in China in 2008 and is now also available in Brazil, Indonesia, Korea, and Mexico, with Russia being added to the programme in 2014. This year’s registration round has recently opened with the deadline for institutions wishing to register set for September 2014, depending on the country.

Universities and other organisations that wish to become a part of the Orange Tulip Scholarships should register to take advantage of the tailor-made promotion package that the Nuffic Neso offices can offer in each country. In Russia, each participating institution will receive its own promotional page in the special OTS Russia section on the Neso Russia website. This page will provide students with information about the institutions, as well as the benefits, requirements and application deadlines for the scholarships. Participating institutions can also choose to promote themselves in much the same way through the other 5 Nuffic Neso offices.

Scholarships

The scholarships are available for Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes and the amounts and conditions vary based on the country and the participating organisation or institution. For the 2014-2015 academic year, there are currently 86 scholarships available at the Nuffic Neso Indonesia office, valued at over €622,000. 22 Chinese students were awarded scholarships during the 2013-2014 academic year. This is the second year that the programme is running in Brazil while Korea and Mexico both launched the programme in 2010 and have since been attracting talented students to study in the Netherlands.

For students wishing to find out more about the available scholarships, application procedure, and deadlines, Nuffic Nesos offices in each country will be able to supply additional details.
