Three of the university’s graduates have now started a successful company in the media industry together. Below, they share their learning and working experience and discuss how NHTV’s programme helped them to achieve their goals.

Aron van der Valk enrolled to the Master in Media Innovation programme after completing NHTV’s Bachelor’s course in International Media and Entertainment Management. He says that it wasn’t an easy choice as he was strongly considering beginning his career directly after his graduation, but he believes that this programme substantially helped his professional and personal development and he knows he made the right choice to pursue it in the end.

Aron describes his graduation project as a tough, but very useful experience. He says that this experience, along with the connections he gained at the university, helped him start a company in cooperation with 2 other alumni of the Master in Media Innovation programme.

“The Master taught me the basics of media innovation entrepreneurship. Though it is not the simplest business, it is a darn exciting one! With a bright future ahead, that’s for sure.”, he says.

Jeroen Peerbolte was looking for a Master’s programme in the media field after completing his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design at TU Eindhoven. After visiting an Open Day at NHTV Breda University, he decided that the Master in Media Innovation programme was exactly what he needed.

Jeroen believes that the strongest side of the programme is the possibility to apply knowledge to practice. He also believes that the core topics in the business modules teach students how to bring an idea to the market, which is the most complicated step in the media industry.

He explains why he decided to join his university mates in starting a new business and describes what they have done to make it successful. He also shares some business plans. ”With a good foundation from the Master of Media Innovation”, he says, “we are confident to say you will be hearing from us ;-).”

Alumni of the Master in Media Innovation programme at NHTVWerner Bastianen was mostly interested in the technological part of the Media Innovation programme. He enrolled in the Master’s after finishing his Bachelor’s course in Product Design & Engineering at NHTV.

He explains that the study curriculum was very comprehensive and, to catch up, he had to learn subjects which were outside of his main interests. He admits that for a successful career in the media innovation industry, however, one must be a specialist in many fields. This holistic approach that he learned during his Master’s programme has been working perfectly in the development of the company he started with Aron and Jeroen.

Werner says: “The Master has taught me the necessary skills and mindset to be the media professional I am today. If you feel you want a career in the field of new and innovative media, I would highly recommend the Master Media Innovation.”
