Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen has published their annual report for the 2013 year. In this paper, Hanze UAS summarised its main goals and achievements, including positions in national rankings such as Keuzegids, Elsevier, and the Student Satisfaction Survey. In 2013, Hanze UAS also celebrated its 215th anniversary.
Hanze UAS in the national rankings
The Keuzegids Student Guide, issued in October, 2013, placed Hanze UAS, Groningen in first place among the northern universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands. This annual ranking also granted the “Top Rated Programme” title to 12 degree programmes offered at the university, including the Bachelor’s Advanced Sensor Applications programme that is taught entirely in English.
Elsevier Magazine and the Student Satisfaction Survey (NSE) also called Hanze UAS one of the leading professional institutions in the Netherlands last year, with 10 categories topped by the university’s programmes.
The right place for talent development
According to the university report, there were 26,233 students in total studying at Hanze UAS in 2013. About 7.5% of them (1969 students) came to the Netherlands from abroad.
As many as 6% of students (more than 1,500) at Hanze UAS take part in one or more “talent programmes” at the institution. Talent programmes are offered within the framework of the Hanze Honours College and consist of additional tracks, minors, specialisations, and personal study routes. The university’s dedication to talent development in order to benefit all students is evident with these results.
The hub for sustainable energy and healthcare
The fields of renewable energy, healthy ageing, and entrepreneurship were named the “strategic themes” at Hanze UAS in 2013. The university established Centres of Expertise in these focal areas which are working to further improvements in education and applied research, as well as encourage closer cooperation with local companies. The European Master of Renewable Energy is one example of the international degree programmes at Hanze UAS designed to train tomorrow’s energy professionals.
