Nikolaj Zukov is currently in his second year at Fontys University of Applied Sciences at the campus in Eindhoven. He is studying Electrical & Electronic Engineering. In the article below he will tell a bit more about his experiences at Fontys.
“The application procedure is quite simple!”
The very first thing which must be faced when you think of studying abroad is the correspondence and a lot of questions you have for your university. For me it was clear very soon that I wanted to start my study at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Eindhoven.
Right from the beginning I received answers to all my questions in a very good way. I was even invited to visit an Open Day to make sure that I wanted to study here. I was struck by the number of laboratories. Knowing that I can work in laboratories at any time, I enjoyed the Open Day very much. After I prepared all necessary documents, I sent them to Fontys. All in all the application procedure is quite simple!
During my first week the university organized an introduction week with a lot of activities like registration in the local town hall, entertainment to connect with others. Besides that we of course received the necessary information on accommodation, class schedules, lists of books and so on.
“The team of students is very diverse”
If you are fluent in English you will have no problem to communicate with fellow students, teachers and staff members. The team of students is very diverse, students come from all over the world, from Venezuela to China. I am in a group of about 30 students which is very similar to high school. At Fontys teaching and learning requires a good interaction between students and teachers; they really stimulate you to ask many questions and to take part in assignments actively.
“I am very happy and satisfied about my study”
In my free time I go to the sports center, for example to play football with other students, swimming in the pool or working out in the gym. In Eindhoven almost all sports can be found in a large sports complex for students.
In the Netherlands, a bicycle is the most important means of transport. The university campus, the railway station or shopping center can be reached quite easily by bicycle. The university has special parking places for bikes, where you can leave them well attended.
So far I can say that I am very happy and satisfied about my study Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Fontys! If you have any questions about studying at Fontys University of Applied Sciences or living in the Netherlands then feel free to contact me directly through n.zukov@studen.fontys.nl.
