Hanze UAS students receive advanced education

Honours programmes excel Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen in higher education in the Netherlands. This is the resolution of the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO), which has granted the university the distinctive feature accreditation for the excellence education. Hanze UAS becomes the first Dutch university which receives this accreditation.

To Groningen with Hanze!Honours programmes at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen are distinguished as exceptional, according to the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO). NVAO has given Hanze’s programmes “distinctive feature accreditation”, making it the first university in the Netherlands to receive this accreditation for excellence in higher education.

All government-funded universities in the Netherlands regularly pass NVAO accreditation. NVAO assesses the quality of programmes, infrastructure, tuition fees, and other general criteria. Without NVAO accreditation, universities aren’t allowed to operate in the Netherlands.

In addition to general accreditation, universities can apply for “distinctive feature accreditation”. This particular credential emphasizes special characteristics of a university such as internationalisation or small-scale education. It is an extra level of accreditation which highlights a university’s most outstanding features.

Hanze UAS, Groningen has become the first university in the Netherlands to receive the distinctive feature accreditation for its Honours programmes. All 54 Bachelor’s programmes offered at the university have additional Honours tracks, minors, and internships that exceptional students can pursue. Graduates of Honours programmes enroll in a more intense form of education than those pursuing regular programmes. The Honours track prepares students for higher positions and increases their chances of getting desired jobs. According to the NVAO report, “With regard to honours or excellence programmes, Hanze UAS holds a distinctive position in higher education in the Netherlands”.

Honours programmes at Hanze UAS are taught within the frames of the Hanze Honours College.

Hanze University of Applied Sciences is located in the vibrant student city of Groningen in the north of the Netherlands. It is home to around 26,000 students from 80 different nationalities. The university offers English-taught Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the fields of Business, Economics, Technology, Media, Music, and Arts.

Hanze UAS is the 2nd best vocational university in the Netherlands, according to the Elsevier ranking 2015. The institution was also ranked 3rd nationally in the Keuzegids HBO 2016 ranking.
