NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences has a web application to help more students find a job during their study at a Dutch university. The app is easy to use; students just put in their specialisations and desired work schedules and interested employers can then make them job offers. Named “JAM@NHTV”, the online app was designed in collaboratin with the JAMwerkt.nl startup.
Having a part-time job while studying in the Netherlands can help students apply the knowledge they gain from their study to practice, all while gaining some extra spending money. However, finding a suitable job can often take a lot of time and effort. Besides the initial job search, pouring over hundreds of listings to find the right fit, it also takes time to send out CVs and interview for positions. And even after all of that, some luck is still needed.
The JAM@NHTV platform facilitates the job hunt by making the search much easier. Users can sit back and wait for employers to come to them instead!
How it works
Many companies like hiring students for short-term and temporary vacancies. Hiring a full-time employee for these positions doesn’t always make sense and so employers want to turn to other options. For these types of jobs, students are often the best choice because they have some of the skills required already. They are also a more flexible option for companies that need a part-time or temporary employee to complete a specific job or project.
That is why JAM@NHTV flips the traditional job search on its head by allowing companies to search for students to fill the positions available, instead of vice versa. Students just need to indicate their area(s) of expertise and their preferred working schedule and then wait until the right employer makes them a job offer.
The application is available in both Dutch and English which means users don’t necessarily need to know Dutch in order to use it. However, it is still focused on the Dutch job market and so even basic Dutch language skills could give candidates an advantage.
JAM@NHTV doesn’t guarantee successful employment, but it does increase the chances for students to get hired without exhaustive efforts. The web app is definitely worth a look for those planning to find a part-time job while studying in the Netherlands.
