Our previous articles have featured Russian-speaking students at Fontys describing their study experiences. While student feedback is helpful in forming an initial impression about the university, nothing beats experiencing the campus and city first-hand. In order to make a final decision regarding Fontys and your chosen programme, a visit to the university during its Open Day will be extremely useful.
Open Days at Fontys University are organised by and for international students. These events provide an opportunity for students from abroad to visit one of the university’s campuses, examine its study facilities, meet lecturers and current students, and explore the Dutch surroundings.
The event is free, but does require registration. Part of the registration process involves introducing yourself in a short motivation letter that shows why you’re interested in studying at Fontys. The university will cover 2 nights of accommodation for students that have a real interest in the institution and its programmes, helping international students afford to visit the school before making their final decision.
This year’s Fontys Open Days are organised two by international students, Maksim Krupnov from Russia and Andra Vişănoiu from Romania. Both students are in their 2nd year of the International Business and Management Studies Bachelor’s programme. Below they share a bit about their experience organising previous Open Day events.
Maksim Krupnov: “The organization of the Open Day was not an easy job. We had a lot of tasks to be completed, but at the same time, it was really interesting because of being in touch with potential students, answering questions, helping them to know more and to make the right choice. Also, it is a great feeling to realize that the whole job was done by your team. It makes the effort worth it! I’m very glad to have such an opportunity to do this at Fontys, besides studying and my other extra activities.”
Andra Vişănoiu: “Before choosing Fontys, I also visited the university and it proved to be extremely useful in order to make a final decision. But having the opportunity to organise the Open Day is definitely a different, yet amazing experience. Managing major international events requires patience and understanding of cultural differences, but in the end, you get a feeling of fulfilment when you realise that you might have changed some high school students' future.”
International students that visited Fontys Open Days in Eindhoven and Venlo in 2016 had this to say about the events:
Eugen Gavriluta, the Republic of Moldova: “My study interests are mainly focused on the field of computer science where I aim to build a career after obtaining the necessary skills. On the 26th of November, I was invited to the Open Day at Fontys University of Applied Sciences. At the event, I learned everything about Fontys’ degree programmes through information sessions, campus tours, workshops, and demonstrations, and also by speaking directly to lecturers, tutors, admissions officers, and students. I received a clear impression of what it is like to be a student in the Netherlands and especially at Fontys University of Applied Sciences.
The Open Day was hosted by Fontys Campus Eindhoven. Eindhoven is a nice and quiet city where you can continue your education, being sure that success is around the corner. I was pleasantly surprised by all the opportunities that you can easily get while studying here. For example, I met several current students that were involved in developing new virtual reality technologies. This is something that is really popular in the world of computer science and I think that it is going to be more popular in the future.
I can say that now I know my path for future education and the city that will serve as a second hometown for me for the next few years.”
Žilvinas Jonaitis, Lithuania: “…they talked about everything we should know. I am very satisfied with the Open Day and I think Fontys would be a great place to study.”
Raluca Matei, Romania: “This event managed to prove that Fontys is different from all other universities, a characteristic that is so valuable nowadays in a world which is in continuous change.”
Antoana Tanchovska, Bulgaria: “This Open Day could be described as one great adventure where I had a lot of fun!”
