NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences has once again passed the UNWTO TedQual certification. The university’s programmes in Hotel, Tourism, and Leisure Management are certified at this organisation until 2021.
What is the UNWTO TedQual certificate?
The United Nations World Tourism Organisation, or UNWTO, is the world’s leading organisation in the field of tourism development. Universities with programmes related to tourism can apply for UNWTO TedQual certification to affirm top quality levels of education and research at their institution. UNWTO assesses the coherence of various aspects of the university, including the school’s curriculum, infrastructure and student support, policies and administrative management, transparency of selection procedures, and relevance to the tourism sector.
Receiving certification
To receive the TedQual certificate for one year, a programme must obtain scores of at least 60% in all categories. In most cases, schools applying for the certification acquire scores between 65 and 85%, receiving certificates for 1–3 years. NHTV Breda University acquired a score of 89.2% and received a 4-year certificate, valid through 2021.
NHTV Breda is also the only Dutch institution to pass the UNWTO TedQual certification.
Why is the UNWTO TedQual certification important?
Students of certified programmes can make use of several benefits, such as:
- pursuing internships at other universities and organisations within the UNWTO network;
- participating in joint research projects;
- making use of scholarship opportunities for programmes at other institutions;
- participating in UNWTO events and conferences;
- being added to the UNWTO database which helps students build an international network.
Graduating from a UNWTO TedQual certified programme can help students find better jobs as the certification holds additional value among employers.
