In May, 2015 the Netherlands will celebrate the 70th anniversary of liberation from World War II German occupation. Canadian soldiers played a significant role in liberating the country. In honour of their part, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with Nuffic, is working towards creating a scholarship programme specifically for Canadian students.

A new ‘technology pact’, signed recently by Dutch businesses, educational institutions, unions, and governmental bodies, hopes to attract more international tech students to The Netherlands. The pact proposes an increase of internships and scholarships for talented foreign tech students, as well as a strong recruiting link with universities.


Number of Erasmus scholarships halved

The Erasmus scholarship is going up. In 2007, it will increase from 150 to 175 euros and by 2013 it will have risen to 250 euros. But because the budget for Erasmus scholarships is hardly increasing in proportion, far fewer students will be eligible. Nuffic expects the number of Erasumus scholarships to fall from 5,000 to 2,500 in 2007.


Kazakhstan's Bolashak scholarship programme

Bolashak, meaning ‘future’ in Kazakh, is the name given to the International Presidential Scholarships Programme, which has been running since 1993. The Bolashak Programme is administered by the JSC Centre for International Programme of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Education and Science.
