General information

Radboud University was founded in 1923. The university is located in the oldest city in the Netherlands, Nijmegen. This beautiful city is situated in the east of the country and is very close to the German border.

Radboud University has seven faculties and teaches over 19,000 students.

Specialization

Radboud University is a research university and places great importance on strengthening the relationship between education and research. One of its more distinguishing characteristics is its focus on interdisciplinarity, where researchers from various disciplines work together on an issue.

Radboud University excels in the fields of life sciences, law, language, and literature. The university’s research facilities are organised into institutes, each of which focuses its energy on certain topics using researchers from a range of disciplines. In almost every field of study at Radboud University, research is being done in an international setting, with a goal of finding solutions to societal problems.

Educational approach

Both Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes have a strong emphasis on research. There are eight English-taught Bachelor’s degrees and 38 English-taught Master’s degrees with more than 70 specialisations, including some more intensive Research Master’s programmes which provide students with an excellent foundation for a more scientific career.

Radboud University provides a high standard of education by ensuring students have small class sizes in which they can work closely with leading researchers and inspiring teachers. The state-of-the-art facilities also contribute to a highly effective learning environment.

Awards and Rankings

Keuzegids “Best University” labelIn 2010, two professors connected to Radboud University were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics. Professor Andre Geim and Professor Konstantin Novoselov won the prize for research into the properties of graphene, the thinnest material in the world.

Two of Radboud University’s professors were awarded the NWO-Spinoza Prize in 2012. This prize is the highest national prize awarded to leading researchers in the field of science.

In 2016, Radboud University ranked 190th in the QS World University Ranking, 121th in the THE Ranking, 109th in the Leiden University Ranking, and 118th in the ARWU Ranking.

The Keuzegids Universiteiten 2017 ranking named Radboud University the best traditional university in the Netherlands 6th year in a row.

Radboud Summer School

Radboud University organises the Radboud Summer School programme for international and Dutch students. In 2017, the summer school will be held between 7 and 18 August, 2017.

It offers excellent academic programmes with an exciting blend of lectures, excursions and social activities. The summer school also gives prospective students a chance to get an overview of their chosen degree programme and to prepare to study at the university.

Over 30 courses are on offer at the summer school, including various Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD courses in the fields of Business & Economics, Science, Arts & Languages, History & Politics, Social Sciences, Brains & Behaviour, Philosophy & Religion, and Health Care.
