Stenden University of Applied Sciences is the largest in Europe in terms of hotel management and tourism management studies. There are also management programmes in the fields of business, leisure, logistics, media and entertainment, and retail. All programmes are designed and assessed by an advisory board of leaders within these fields in order to ensure they are meeting the needs of each industry.
The curriculum at Stenden places great importance upon practical experience. Students can gain work experience through the ‘Learning Companies’ within the Stenden institution, as well as through the many internships offered.
Students gain theoretical knowledge through regular teaching and practical hands-on experience by working on real assignments from external customers and receiving training as part of a professional organisation. Each programme at Stenden has its own Learning Company or another form of a practical component. This combination of academic and practical knowledge and experience provides students with the essential skills necessary to become successful members of any team in the international job market. The Learning Companies at Stenden include the four-star Stenden University Hotel which features restaurants, a conference and event centre, as well as the university canteens, and the learning studio for media productions.
The internships offered at Stenden also emphasize the importance of practical experience. Students that are enrolled in a Bachelor’s programme at Stenden will spend a large portion of it participating in a paid internship at one of the many businesses Stenden has partnered with from all over the world. Students can intern in countries such as Canada, France, Germany, the UK, or the US to gain work experience within their field of study and often have the option to start their career in the intern company upon graduation.
